LAPURAN POLIS OLEH BARISAN ALTERNATIF TERHADAP DATUK SAMY VELLU

Police report against MIC President Datuk Seri Samy Vellu for remarks inciting racial hatred made in Petaling Jaya on Saturday 24th March 2001 as reported in the Sunday Star (March 25) at page 6.

Page 6 of the Sunday Star of 25 March 2001 carries a report by a reporter named Clarence Chua which states, in part, as follows :-

"He claimed that one reason why Indians were attacked was because they were staunch Barisan Nasional supporters. (He) said if it was just a fight between two neighbours, such violent attacks would not have happened.

"referring to the Lunas by-election,he said Indians encountered the same problems, adding that buses were smashed."

These remarks are racially inflammatory and made to stir up racial tension between different communities in Malaysia. They are also false statements made without any factual basis whatsoever. The making of such statements is an offence under the Sedition Act.

We call upon the police to speedily investigate the making of these remarks and to recommend prosecution of Datuk Samy Vellu.
