KUALA LUMPUR March 19 - The move by Tripod.com to remove at least 11 "reformasi" and opposition websites from its servers should be emulated by other webhosting companies, said UMNO Youth assistant secretary Zulkifli Alwi.

He said Tripod.com, owned by Lycos, Inc. of the United States, had acted firmly and responsibly in curbing abuses in the use of the Internet.

Zulkifli said the action served to confirm that the websites concerned had abused facilities to churn out falsehoods and lies about Malaysia.

"We urge other webhosting companies to be responsible like Tripod.com," he said in a statement here today.

A local newspaper reported today that Tripod.com had removed 11 "reformasi" and opposition websites "for abusing facilities on its servers".

The websites include Mahafiraun, Komentar, Pemantau, Minda Rakyat, Debat 2020, NT Zalim, Harakah Daily (mirror site), Detik Daily, Pas Parit Buntar (Perak) and three Tranung Kite sites.

Tripod.com has easy-to-use programmes that make it possible for anyone to build websites for free.
