Subang, Saturday, 30th. September
PSM Subang first attempt to organise a Fund Raising dinner was
successfully
accomplished. Though the programme was delayed by half an hour due to
heavy
rain and lost participants, the programme went on with the beat of THE
INTERNATIONALE.
The biggest success was the attendance of representatives from all
opposition parties including those outside BA namely Malaysian
Democratic
Party (MDP) and PRIM (Parti Reformasi Insan Malaysia). The event was
also
well balanced from representatives from grassroots community as well as
NGOs
around Subang.
The event started with the welcoming address by Comrade Arul, the
Secretary
General of the party. This was followed by a speech by the party
Chairperson
Comrade Nasir Hashim. Both talked about PSM as well as the need for a
socialist struggle. Arul explained that the party has only 13
registered
members but has the support of four front organisation and more than
eighty
sub-front organisations (workers and peoples committee). PSM
chairperson
also stressed the point, that the party though small will continue to
struggle based on its strength and based on its ideological principles.
The
party, he said truly beliefs that only socialism has the tools of
understanding the situation and the relationship between the rich and
the
poor and the means to break this fundamental inequality. His address
was
followed by a 15 minutes slide presentation on PSM and its struggle.
Sdr. Teng Chang Khim, a close friend of PSM and the National Youth
Chief of
DAP then gave the keynote address. He noted the presence of non-BA
party at
the dinner and called for these forces to unite as though there maybe
some
differences but the similarities are much bigger. He also went on to
describe the newly appointed Chief Minister of Selangor whom he
described as
a Chief without any power. Sdr. Syed Husin Ali, the President of Parti
Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) also talked of the need for all parties fighting
for
the oppressed to unite and fight the common enemy as a short-term
strategy.
Sdri Irene Fernandez from Parti KeADILan (PKN) said that PKN would
continue
to demand for PSM to be registered, as it is the democratic right of
PSM to
form a political party. Representatives from MDP spoke about corruption
in
the government while PRIM Protem Secretary Udayakumar spoke about the
partnership of Dr. Mahathir and Samy Vellu.
There were also speeches from community leaders, songs and sketches
besides
the speeches. The programme ended with a Thank You speech from the
Subang
Chairperson and veteran activist Comrade Ramah.
The Internationale played again ending the event……..
Stand up, all victim of oppression
For the tyrants fear your might
Don't cling so hard to your possessions
For you have nothing, if you have no rights
Let racist ignorance be ended
For respect makes the empires fall
Freedom is merely privilege extended
Unless enjoyed by one and all
" …So come brothers and sisters
For the struggle carries on
The Internationale,
Unites the world in song
So comrades come rally
For this is the time and place
The Internationale ideal Unites the human race
Let no one built walls to divide us
Walls of hatred nor walls of stone
Come greet the dawn and stand beside us
We'll live together or we'll die alone
In our world poisoned by exploitation
Those who have taken, now they must give
And end the vanity of nations
We've but one Earth on which to live
And so begins the final drama
In the streets and in the fields
We stand unbowed before their armour
We defy their guns and shields
When we fight, provoked by their aggression
Let us be inspired by life and love
For though they offer us concessions
Change will not come from above
(The Original lyric of Internationale was written after the fall of
Paris
Commune in 1871. The above is a Billy Bragg)
